Modern Movement
The art quilt community of Modern Movement (Modern Műhely) has been working together for almost twenty years. Currently Modern Movement has 19 members. The artistic director is Eszter Bornemisza, while Gyöngyi Váradi is responsible for logistics and administration.
In addition to having exhibitions regularly across Hungary, we have often been offered opportunities in the most prestigious European festivals and shows. Over the years all members have preserved their own individual voices, materials and techniques. Some of the artists have had solo shows, and many have successfully entered Hungarian and international contests. At the same time, the group as a whole and each artist is eager to experiment with new approaches and processes.
The collection Freedom and Restriction, which has been specifically compiled for this festival, consists of works made in the past five years. Each artist will present a quilt of 50 by 50 cm, as well as a large piece using their favourite techniques, colours and themes … without any restriction.
